How the practice works

You start on the home keys 4, 5 and 6, add the top and bottom rows, then 0 and the decimal point, and finish with mixed drills. The on-screen keypad lights up the next key so you never have to look down.

Also useful for data entry: the number row course and a 5-minute typing test.

What is a 10-key typing test?

A test of how fast and accurately you enter numbers on the numeric keypad, the block of number keys on the right of a full keyboard. It is common for data entry, accounting and bookkeeping jobs.

How is 10-key speed measured?

In keystrokes per hour (KPH). Data-entry job ads often ask for roughly 8,000 to 10,000 KPH.

Which finger goes on which key?

Rest your right hand on 4, 5 and 6 with the middle finger on 5 (it has a small bump). The index finger types 1, 4 and 7, the middle finger 2, 5 and 8, the ring finger 3, 6 and 9, the thumb 0 and the little finger Enter.
