How kids learn here

Each lesson adds one or two keys, starting on the home row. The on-screen keyboard lights up the next key and the hands show the finger, so children learn to type without looking. Every exercise earns up to three stars.

When they are ready, a short 1-minute typing test shows their speed, and teachers can follow a whole class: see typing for schools.

What age can children start touch typing?

Most children are ready at about 7 or 8, when their hands can rest across the home row. Younger children can start with the games.

Is TypingStreak safe for kids?

Yes. There is no chat, this page shows no ads, and no account is needed to practise. Classes only share typing progress with the teacher.

What is a good typing speed for a child?

Roughly 10 to 15 WPM at age 8, 20 to 25 WPM by 11 and 30 to 40 WPM in the early teens, with accuracy above 90%. Accuracy matters more than speed while learning.
