Common questions

Which keyboard layout should I learn?

Learn the layout your keyboard already has, usually QWERTY, or AZERTY or QWERTZ in France and Germany. Switching to Dvorak or Colemak can feel more comfortable, but it takes weeks to get back to your old speed.

Is Dvorak or Colemak faster than QWERTY?

They move common letters to the home row so your fingers travel less, which many people find more comfortable. There is little proof of a big speed gain; most fast typists use QWERTY.

How do I know which layout I have?

Look at the first letters of the top row: QWERTY, AZERTY or QWERTZ. Or start typing in TypingStreak and it detects the layout from a few letters you type.
